Who runs this

The Massachusetts Registry is a community resource dedicated to connecting residents across the Merrimack Valley with contractors and service providers they can trust. We've been doing this since 2010, building relationships with local businesses and learning what separates professional work from the rest. Our credibility rests on three things: our deep involvement in the community, the actual research we do on businesses before recommending them, and our commitment to verifying that the contractors on our list meet real standards, not just promises.

We curate recommendations rather than list everyone who asks. That means fewer options, but options that matter. When you find a roofing contractor, gutter specialist, siding installer, or deck builder on our site, it's because we've looked into them — not because they advertised with us or paid to be listed. The standards we apply come directly from the trade associations that set the rules for professional workmanship.

Something we changed our mind about

We started by trusting local word-of-mouth recommendations, and for a long time that seemed enough. But over the years, we kept hearing stories about contractors who came with glowing reviews until something actually went wrong. A roof that looked fine in month two but failed in month five. Gutters that weren't sealed properly. Work that met local code but not the manufacturer's standards, which meant no warranty coverage. The recommendations we'd been comfortable passing along turned out to be incomplete — built on reputation without checking the underlying standards.

That changed what we ask before we list anyone. Now we want to know: Are they trained to the standards their trade body sets? Can they prove insurance? Do customers have a realistic path to get issues fixed if they come up later? It's a harder set of questions, and it means fewer businesses make our list. But it also means the ones that do are built to last, not just built to close the sale.
